We are Parsons Design Workshop 2011, a group of graduate architecture students at Parsons The New School for Design. This year the Design Workshop has teamed up with the NYC Parks Department and City Parks Foundation, we have spent the last semester designing Splash House, new pool pavilions for the Highbridge pool and recreation center. Every year the recreation center which offers numerous kid and adult programs such as art, basketball, and fitness shuts down during the pool season to accommodate changing and locker spaces for pool patrons. Our design would allow the locker and changing areas to be relocated from recreational program uses like the basketball court to the pool deck. This would allow the recreation center to function year round and provide a place for kids to play on rainy summer days. We are currently preparing construction documents to build the project ourselves this summer. On Tuesday we received unanimous approval from the Landmarks Commission, which means we are one step closer to getting the Splash House built.
In order to get it built we are raising money for materials on Kickstarter, which is an all or nothing fund raising site. Every dollar counts, we are currently 51% funded and only have 13 days left to raise $15k. We need your support. (all donations are tax-deductible) Please feel free to forward anyone else who would be interested in improving a very important part of the community.
